Bike Switzerland & Swiss Tourism
As of January 1st, Bike Switzerland is a member of Swiss Tourism.
Although we’ve collaborated with ST over the years, we’ve never been a voting member.
However, starting in 2017 Swiss Tourism is going to be marketing specifically to cyclists and so we thought it was time to get on board.
As a member, we’ll be appearing on the ST website, at their trade fair tables and be working more closely together to promote cycling in Switzerland.
Challenge Tour: 3 Spot Left
It looks like we’re going to have a full Challenge Tour from June 20 – 30th.
We’ve only got 3 spots left. There’s a possibility that we can take 4 more riders, but we’d need to check on room availability.
As mentioned in a previous blog post, we’ve got more women than men on this ride.
Single people often hesitate signing up for group rides thinking that they may be the only single person on the tour.
Not this year, at least half of our riders on this Challenge Tour will be coming alone.
Not sure if this tour is for you ? Keep in mind that we’ll be doing approximately 80 km per day (50 miles) per day on diverse terrain.
Riders should expect to spend between 4 and 7 hours in the saddle each day.
Possible Lite Tour in August or September
We were intending to have just one guided tour on the calendar this year.
However, because this tour is filling up early, we’re considering a Lite Tour tour for late August or early September.
We haven’t committed to this or the dates, and are asking you to write to us if you’d be interested in doing a guided Lite Tour at this time.
If we can generate enough interest before March, then we’ll add the tour to the 2017 calendar.
More information about the tour and route here.
In case you missed it, Bike Switzerland is offering this coupon book to anyone signing up for an independent or guided tour between January 15th and February 1st.
The book contains lots of “two-for-one” coupons for restaurants, transport and tourist attractions all over the country.
More information at our blog post.
New Challenge Tour Hotel
We’ve been using the Alpine Lodge in Saanen for the last 5 or 6 years.
The staff at there has been great and always made us feel special and welcome.
Unfortunately, the hotel is going to be closing this year to undergo major renovations and we do not yet know when it will be re-opening.
However, we’ve found a great solution in the brand new design hotel “HUUS”.
If you did our Challenge Tour 7 or 8 years ago, you’ll recognize the Hotel HUUS as the former Steigenberger Hotel that we used to use.
However, the hotel has been completely renovated and has a brand new concept that emphasises alpine design and luxury.
We’re sure you’ll love the place and encourage you to read the articles here and here to find out more.
The HUUS is perched above Gstaad in the Bernese Oberland.
That’s right…you’ll need to climb to get to the top.
But that means less climbing the following day and wonderful views on the terrace in the evening.

Riders doing last year’s Challenge and Alpine Tours have shared photos of the rides with us and they’re now on-line.
